Hey all, I am likely going to be going ahead with the plan to start a Thursday night competitive league. If you have any ideas on how we should run it please post them here for discussion. For example, would you like to see a parity league, or perhaps a league where you could enter a team. If you know of amazing leagues elsewhere let us know about them too. What do you feel DUC needs most? Let the discussion begin!! Oh and the league will be running In Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville.

Parity league in TUC is pretty dang popular - I would love to see that format come to Durham. Also because signing up for TUC Parity league is like winning the lottery - the whole thing fills up 30 seconds after sign-ups open

Parity seems to be very well received everywhere, though I think every where that's run it (Toronto, Winnipeg and Ottawa) have only done so indoors.

Very good attendance is required as well.

One option that gets half-way to a parity league is running a draft league.

When Ash and I picked up in Phoenix, we found out their entire league ran off of drafted teams. So there would be 4-8 captains, and one night the captains would sit down and draft their teams for the season.

It works best when all games are at the same location and time, so that siblings, friends, and significant others can all still attend together, even if they aren't on the same team.

I don't know if that's the answer, but it's another option to consider.

The drafted teams sounds pretty neat. Is there a "buffer" taken into account for poor attendance? I kind of imagine that running similarly to the Fall league in that skill level is taken into account and then the talent is distributed. Except of course in this case the captains have the factor of chemistry to keep in mind.

I have played in tpl for 7 seasons. I have also GMed. It is a lot of fun but a lot of work. It is a different game because people are way more selfish and it can get cliquey.

If people are absent, you must find an adequate sub, approved by the other gm and they must be within a range of spots. That being said tpl is amazing, heart breaking, frustrating and rewarding. If you want help i know all of the people that ran the league, have access to the spreadsheets and would love to put this together.

i would not recommend more than 8 teams to start. Getting women is always the problem.

The commissioners recommend starting with 6 or maybe even 4. They would recommend a 3-3 ratio. Say that it would not work uh bless it was speedpoint format.

Tpl is also speedpoint. I haven't heard of an outdoor parity league.
