This past weekend two Durham Region High Schools competed at CHSUC in Montreal. R.S. McLaughlin (led by Bryce Zimny) and the Bowmanville High School Talons (led by Kevin MacLeod) braved the rain and flooding of the St. Lawrence River to better their results from last year's championships held in Oshawa. Both teams were happy to be competing at that level once again and the weather challenged all teams at the competition. McLaughlin was plagued with injuries and had a more successful Sunday than Saturday, placing 14th. The Talons won all Saturday games handily to then face Etobicoke C.I. in the quarter-final. A 10-3 victory in that match-up would put BHS up against SJR from Winnipeg, Manitoba. A tough-to-swallow 6-7 loss in that game saw the Talons face a private school team from B.C. to determine 3rd and 4th. The team shook off the feelings of defeat from the previous game to earn bronze with a score of 7 - 4 over St.George's and York House from Vancouver.

Both teams and coaches should be congratulated for their efforts but also, a shout out the Ultimate community in Durham is necessary. I have witnessed many wonderful players in this league offer their time to volunteer coach and/or mentor young up-and-coming athletes. As assistant coach of the Talons, I would like to acknowledge the support of the DUC membership to grow Ultimate in this region and work with our youth so willingly. Finally, a thank you to all the DUC supporters who, despite technical delays, cheered the team on from home as they watched some of the match ups on live streaming.

Sincerely,
Thank You.
