Greetings everyone,
As the league's last game is currently set for this Sunday, do we know if there will be games of some nature in September?
Regardless of the type of game - league continuation, pick-up, et cetera - I've polled players from the Disc-combobulators and I suspect we're going to lose about a 1/3 of our team come September... Those of us that are left though would like to keep playing into September and even October. We'd be willing to take on players from other teams that are unable to continue into September to help complete our roster (we'd like 14 or 16 players in total).
I've truly enjoyed my first season of Ultimate and the team as a whole has had a blast. The only minor criticism we've had revolves around scheduling. We'd hope that with the 4 division format now in place that next year will see a full schedule and playoff format set at the beginning of the season. I'll be the first guy to agree that creating a schedule is neither easy or fun, but it'd make the life of the 23 or 24 team administrators/captains a lot easier...
Anyway, best of luck to everyone this Sunday. Enjoy the long weekend in September. And, here's to more games after that long weekend!

It's my first year as well. Had a great time. Hopefully there is enough interest to keep it going for a few more weeks.

Rumor has it that we have the fields until sometime in October?! I havent been able to confirm this but it seems to be the cut off date when we need to be off the fields.
Also, rumor has it there is somehting else in the works for some kind of playoffs, be it for fun or to call yourselves the best i donno yet.
As for teams, im sure ALOT of teams will be getting smaller in the fall season due to College/University kicking back in. Best thing i can suggest is get your captain to post how many numbers you have remaining around from your team and either Merge with another team for the remainder of the season or possibly split and join into other teams which might be short! Either way you will still get your playing time, might learn something new and meet some new people!
Also there is and will still be pickup games planned so keep checking the boards for information on any pickup games planned or come out to the thursday scrimmage at Father Leo J Astin Cathloic HS in Whitby!

Not yet.. Apparently they are still in the works. Im HOPING they will make an announcement about any furthur games this season soon. In the mean time all we can do is wait and come to Thursday Scrimmages!!!!
If you are interested in playing thursday nights, just read the posts and follow the directions to the location! I will put up directions and a map on the next Scrimmage post!!

This weekend coming up is a LONG weekend so there is NO LEAGUE GAMES!!! However if there is interest for some games over the long weekend we can setup a scrimmage date and time and hopefully get a good turnout!

There will be September games! I sent an email to captains saying that I would schedule those games once I knew which teams would be around. I am still waiting on word back from the captains. Last year we had way too many teams defaulting games and everyone was getting upset when they showed up to play and they had no team to play.
September will not be playoffs. The captains decided that instead of September playoffs we would have a tournament. I warned against the tournament as past experience had shown me that no one is availabe during the summer for this kind of thing ... but we put it to a vote and the tournament won.
I will not have time to do the schedule this weekend so it will have to wait.

Why not make it a playoff formatWith those teams that can play in September? Rank them according to their record in the 2nd half of the season. Then small Tourney style just like last September

Need an extra player? Whats up, I have played ultimate for 4 years in Newmarket during the summer. I go to school in Oshawa and there is absolutely no love for the disc at UOIT. I would love to come and just play for a team that needs an extra hand. Could you guys let me know what time / where you play on Sundays? Also do you guys know if there is an indoor league in Durham during fall / winter?

I agree with Pucky... Alot of teams are loosing their players.. Including my team.. we havent been fielding enough numbers for a team.. and i cant see it getting any better for the remainder of the season.. The playoff idea is nice and always wanted, but might be hard...

Games on sundays are either a 4pm or 6pm start at the ritson fields... if your looking just to play and have fun come out to thursday scrimmages.. Probably your best bet to meet some people in the DUC and possibly hop on a team for the remainder of the season. |

Hey Ian, people usually get together on thursday's starting just after 6. The game usually gets under way closer to 7. We play untill the mosquitos come out. Though they come in full attack I don't understand why we call it so early. There is at least a half hour of sun light left. Not to mention I know of some people that own FLASH FLIGHTS that are there on Thursdays....perhaps somone with BRIGHT YELLOW SHORTS and loves to drink 4L TUBS of Iced Tea late at night?!??! Oh, and I hear ya about UOIT and their lack of Disc Love. I tried getting a few people to throw once, but with no luck. They broke out the american football. I just think they are scared because they don't know how to throw a disc...muahaha. |

I am back from school and usually play with the Mighty Hucks (last season & the one before) and played on two teams in the North Bay Ultimate League this summer. I work evenings (waitress) so can't likely commit to making it every single week, but something better than nothing!
I can't imagine any/many of the MH are able to play or have anything close to putting a team in as pretty much all of us are/were away at school.
So if anyone needs a 20 yr old female with way too much energy and that talks way too loudly...I'm right here..ha ha.

About UOIT...
I have inside info that there is a movement to bring the love of the disc to their fields. One my Hero's brothers is in talks with the people and getting things set up hopefully for this year. Still come out and play with us though. |
