I would like clarification please as to proper protocol re field time. I was to understand that we are always to finish games at 5 to the hour to allow the next teams to warm up starting then, allowing games to start on the hour (or close to it) and finish at the :55 mark. Yesterday, however our team was held back and when I questioned the team occupying the field I was told that they were held back and were paying it forward. I am there for fun and didn't want to turn a discussion into an argument so I dropped it.

In hindsight I should have stopped our game at :55 but ended up doing the same with an explanation to the next team which I didn't like having to do but chose to give my players the same playing opportunity.

So please clarify what should be the proper protocol going forward in order to avoid future confrontation.

Thanks
Manny

Hey Manny,
I would like to add a little context to the situation because we were the first team that was delayed, and I would like to know what to do.

The little 6-8 year old kids were playing soccer on the end field and ran late. Significantly late. The ref was on the field and refused to end the game. I went and talked to the staff member that was wondering around about it, and he said to just let them be late. He was thinking that weekends ran till :00 instead of :55. He was also not confident enough to tell the ref to end it.

The middle field and end field were running at different times, the middle field was ending at :00

Now he finally kicked them off the field at 12:05, 10 minutes late. He said he would guarantee us the hours of field time for each game throughout the day. This means that we should have been able to stay on the field to 1:05, and start the 5 minute transition then.

Bill booted us off early, because ... Bill. So the other team took the field at 1 pm instead of 1:05 like it was supposed to be. The employee who was guaranteeing extra time was no where to be seen to help manage the time because he left, and there was no one with "authority" to tell the next games to wait.

The 3 pm game decided to end early as well because they were getting pressure from the 4 pm game, and a number of senior players had another game to get to, so they didn't want to delay.

There are 2 serious problems with field times. The soccer club is consistently running late and refuse to vacate. And they jump on the field with their balls taking away the extra time we get because of the delay.

What are we supposed to do? The clock is not helping. The parents are standing around demanding extra time for their kids because the refs/coaches have poor time management skills. Some of our people want to be the nice guys and give up our time, but in the end we are losing the time, not the soccer club.

Maybe there needs to be a countdown clock, that lists how much time is left instead of the clock that says the time?

Is there a reliable way for us to pass on the fact that there is a delay in time from one time slot to the next.

Thanks for taking the time Rick.

Another issue I had was at Civic when I asked the (adult) soccer players if they were going to remove the nets. They said no we could do it or go find staff to. There was no staff to be found so we did it. I don't think this should be our responsibility.

I am looking for clarification as to what to do going forward if the league could please look into these 2 issues with WISC and Civic staff and clarify please and thank you.

It should be the staff but usually there is minimal staff working so the best thing to do is just move the stuff yourself. Soccer teams are users just like us and should not have to move stuff, but after we leave the field they likely have to put them back on the field to play their games. With 5 minutes between games there is just no way for the minimal staff to move all the nets. They should be helping though. Bottom line, if you want something done right, and on time, do it yourself.

Fair enough thank you. So long as I know the protocol we will take care of the soccer nets regardless of available staff.

And my bad for not seeing the last part of the very loooooong email yesterday. Question answered. Fair warning that we will take the field at 5 to the hour regardless of when the previous game started. And so as not to be a hypocrite our team will vacate by 5 to regardless of when we start.

Also.. I look forward to that wagon ride!!

You can not enter the field until on the hour.

OK just to clarify..

If we are to stop at 5 to the hour, but not enter until the hour.. Who occupies the field from :55 until the hour?

(typically that's when games usually stop and the next teams warm up)

The teams that payed for the field from 6 - 7 have payed for the field until the hour. Technically we should not even be warming up until the hour. And last night I saw lots of people warming up before the hour.
