I'm thinking about joining a team this year (individually probably), but I dont know if its for me! I love ultimate - played on a team a couple years ago, but I'm not the best at it and have weak ankles.

How hardcore are the beginnger teams?
How does it work? Games? Practices? etc.
How competetive is it?

Thanks for any info!

Hey Sarah! First off it's great to meet new players and know that there is on going intrest in the sport! The beginner division is a very mixed group. Experienced players wishing to help develop other players skills, and team structure; and new players just out for a very fun time, and the social aspect of this wonderfull game!! Don't get me wrong, every team likes to win, so there is always a touch of competitiveness. Though in the beginner division in the DUC, I would not say you would be intimidated, and you will learn quite a bit. Everyone is there for a good time, and to play some ulti!! It's a fun, spirited league with loads of stellar people to meet and play with week to week.

If you look on the website under the "07 fall meeting minutes"
http://www.durhamultimateclub.com/league/page.aspx?PageID=79
you will find how the league is going to run this season. A lot of changes have been made, and we are all looking forward to this up and comming season!!

Practices are all up to the team you play on. If the captain runs practices, that's great! If not there are other teams that do, and usually don't mind players showing up. I would just contact the team captain and make sure that is the case! Clinics will also be run this year by myself and Kevin. This will give advanced players some extra practice (as we all need it!..haha) and beginner-intermediate players a chance to learn lots of new fundamentals, tricks and skills needed to advance in this gorwing sport of ultimate!

As for week ankles....WE UNDERSTAND!!! hahahahah, we all play ultimate and we all have week ankles. Just kidding. Let's just say "ACTIVE ANKLE" Supports are never out of view from any angle of any Ultimate field! I wouldnt worry about it..haha!

Can't wait to see you out there! Just contact some captains and from the divisions you wish to play in, or contact Kevin. I'm sure he will be happy to give you some contacts for the 2007 season. (Or you can just come out on March 31st and register as an idividual and be placed onto a team).

Happy Hunting!

Nice reply Dicki! THe easiest way to get on a team is to come to the registration as Dicki has explained. There are lots of beginner teams who need girls.

Hey Dicki is there much space left of guys on your new team? I play for the Drugstore Cowboys but I think I need an extra dose of ultimate this year.

Absolutly! We currently have 4 guys on the team and 2 girls. That's it so far, so if you know any more girls or guys just let me know! I'm looking to build a team of 14 if possible. 10+ will be ideal! But please post on the subject "New B-Division Team". Just so I can keep track of things a little bit easier!..haha. Thanks a lot!!!

Also, if your looking for just random fun ultimate, scrimmages will be run every Thursday again this season at Henry Street High School as soon as the weather gets nice.. So look for my posts on that too! Great way to shake off the pre-season rust!

hey Dicki

Are you starting a B or a C team this year? I was under the assumption that you were running a C team - but your other posts now make me think differently. If your doing a B team I'm already committed to the Drugstore.

Hey hey! I had in mind that the Cowboys are playing in A-division this season. I am starting a B-Division team, so crappy news if you can't play with us...not to mention if I can't find a few more girls, I'm not sure the team will happen. I have high hopes though! Ultimate will prevail!..haha. Let me know if you can still play. A and C play at the same time slots, B and D play at the same time as well. So if Drugstore are playing in A it will work out. If not, we'll see ya on the field! (take it easy on us, we are a bunch of first year players..lol)

Take care, keep smillin'

Dicki,

The Drugstore is definitely not playing in the A. I would have stepped up if I had too but my team needs another year to develop and gel. If we move up halfway through that would be great. However Hammer Time and Geri's from my memory are moving up. Both teams beat us soundly so it would only make sense. See ya in the B

ahh, My bad! I didn't mean to start any rumours. I was mistaken, and looking forward to playing DSC in the B-Division! and hopefully by the end of summer playing in the A-division as well!! Hey, did you notice that if you use DSC as a short form it sounds like DISC?!...or am i WAY too late on that one?!

Dicki, here's something to think about, if your team does well in the B and moves up into the A then you will be on two teams in the A and will have to choose one of them. So you will have paid to play on two teams and now can only play on 1 team. Matt (Dr. Fever) and myself will also be in similar situations if our B teams do well. Just something to think about.

Very true, If that is the case. I'm sure they will be able to handle it in A-Division with out me. Good point though! The problem now is paying for both teams and having them in the same divison! Well, in any case. There are a lot of first time players on the team. So as much as I hope we do very well in B...I think with the teams that are already in the devision, We'll be safe in B for at least the first season! Thanks for the info though. I never thought about that!!
