2023
Summer Adult Leagues
Please read the information below carefully. If you
are part of a team please don't sign up as an individual.
Minimum age:
Since these leagues are mainly comprised of adults, the recommended
age is 18 and over, however, parents or legal guardians can electronically sign
a waiver to allow their children to participate so long as the child is in high
school. This means that children who are not yet in high school (therefore
still in elementary school) are not allowed to play in this league as they
should be playing in the youth league. Parents are expected to be at the
games to supervise their children.
Membership Required:
Please be aware that to play in any division you will need a membership.
There is a link on the right side of the homepage under registration to
purchase your membership but don't purchase it if it does not say 2023. There
is a membership for players that are 17 and under (as of Jan 1 of this
calendar year) and one for adults (anyone that will be 18 or older this
calendar year) so please select the correct one. You will not be able to be
added to a team until you have a membership. The membership is a once-a-year
purchase and allows you to play in summer, fall and indoor leagues. During the
process of purchasing the membership you will also have to read and electronically
sign a waiver. You do not need to print the waiver. After you have purchased it
and you log into the DUC site it may still say you need to buy a membership
until you are added to a team so, please don't purchase it twice.
The Details
This year DUC is offering Sunday divisions at 5 pm and 7 pm, a Wednesday
hat league and also an early season women’s league. Please be aware that this
year there will be different gender matching ratios for the Sunday 5 pm and 7
pm divisions so please read carefully.
To register for any of these
items please go to the DUC homepage and look on the right side of the page for
registrations. You may have to click the link near the bottom that says more
registration.
Women’s
Early Season Wednesday Hat League
In an effort to get more women into the game, DUC is offering this 4
week league that will run from April 26th to May 17. Ideally women
that are already in the league will be able to recruit more women to try the
sport out and then perhaps continue playing in the summer. This league will
also allow the participants to gain confidence in their throwing and decision-making
in a fun, non-judgemental setting. This is a hat league which means that
players will be distributed to try and create parity between teams. The format,
6v6, 5v5 will depend on the number of registrants and field space. Each team
will be designated with an experienced female captain. Each night there will be
some time dedicated to helping out the new players with skills and rules.
Players can sign up individually or in small groups up to 4 women.
Dates: Wednesdays from April 26 to May 17 (4 weeks)
Locations: Oshawa (Fernhill Park)
Format: Depends on # of players registered. Likely 5v5 small field.
Ratio: Women
only
Game Times: 6:30 pm until dark
Level: Recreational
games: 4 games (any
games rained out will not be made up)
Costs
All
players will need to have a membership plus also pay the player fee below. The
membership is a year long membership and you only have to buy it once and then
you can join all the leagues, summer, fall and indoor.
Brand New female player Fee: $5 + tax = $5.65
Regular player Fee: $20 + tax = $22.60
Linking with someone else: If you and some friends want to play on
the same team, this is no problem. Players are allowed to link themselves to
other players up to a maximum of 4 people. If you are joining as a group of
more than 2 then during registration, please have each player link to a
unique code word as this makes it easier to group you all together.
Please don't use common words like "ultimate" for your unique
code word. If you wish to be linked to players, please make sure all
players sign up in a timely manner to make sure that they all get on your team.
Wednesday
Hat League
This is a hat league which means that players will be distributed to try
and create parity between teams. This league will use the Gender Ratio Rule A (Prescribed
ratio rule) when it comes to matching so our priority will be making sure we
have the same number of women playing as open players. The term ‘open’ means that players do
not need to indicate what their gender is. Open = any player in the league
(could be man, woman, transitioning male or female, self-defined, or players
could prefer not to say).
Players can sign up individually or in small groups up to 4 people. Ideally
these groups should have equal numbers of women to open. Groups that include
women will be given priority over other groups because we typically have a
shortage of women.
Dates: Wednesdays from late May until Mid August
Locations: Oshawa/Whitby
Format: 7 on 7 full field
Ratio: Gender
ratio rule A (“prescribed ratio” rule): At the start of
the game, after the first disc flip, an additional disc flip happens with the
winner selecting the gender ratio for the first point. For the second and third
points the ratio must be the reverse of the first point. For the fourth and
fifth points the ratio must be same as the first point. This pattern of
alternating the ratio every two points repeats until the end of the game (half
time has no impact on the pattern.) Although it's not explicitly stated in
the rule, the ratio that you choose is either 3:4 or 4:3 (women:open).
Game Times: 7 pm (6:30 in August)
Level: Recreational
games: 12 games
Costs
All
players will need to have a membership plus also pay the player fee below. The

Team Instructions -
for Captains entering a complete team
Cost is $850 and should be
paid through the duc website. (Do not Etransfer the money) Please make sure you
complete the correct team payment for either 5 pm or 7 pm. Spots in each
division will be on a first come first served basis so get your money and forms
in as soon as you can. If there are not enough teams (6 or more) to form a
separate competitive division all the teams will be placed in one division and
games will be scheduled as a round robin ladder system similar to Sunday
indoor. When playoffs come, teams will have to opt in. The top 8 teams
according to the ladder will be placed in the upper group and will compete to
be playoff champions. There will be no prizes for teams in the lower group. Each
team registering will receive 18 discs. If a team will have
more than 18 players, then extra discs can be purchased at $10 a piece.
Please budget appropriately to cover extra discs if necessary. Please review
the captain’s responsibilities by going to the "About DUC" web page
and clicking on the DUC Constitution, bylaws, and policies. Please do not
adjust players on and off your roster to cover injuries or vacations.
Once a player is on your roster they should remain there for the season unless
permission from the league administrator is given to make a change.
Captain Instructions for setting up their roster
- Pay the team fee on the duc
website.
- If you have entered a new
team then send Kevin an email so he can set up your new team.
- Use either your roster from
last year or your home email to email all players to buy their
memberships. Send something like this to your players:
Hey folks, the summer season is fast
approaching. Please complete the following as soon as possible:
1) Buy your
membership.
2) Tell me you have
bought it. Be aware that until I put you on the team it will continue to say
that you have not bought a membership so just ignore this message.
3) Please check to see
that you are on the team roster after I have added you to the team.
4) If you are
playing on two teams, make sure you are on both rosters.
- 4 Once your players
have purchased their membership you can log into the team settings and select Players. Then in the blue box, select add player to roster, then select the season
as 2023. Type in each person's
name and choose the players for your team. If you cannot find someone then
either they have not bought their membership, or you are spelling their name incorrectly.
Once you have selected your players then click on Next. If they are returning players the
system should detect that and choose their profile automatically, however, in
some cases you may have to click on a box to select them manually. If they are
new players then the system will make them a new profile.
- If you could not find all
your players email them to buy their membership and tell them to let you
know when they are done so you can go in and add them. Or even
send them the following info:
